The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) requires irradiation of guavas, chile manzano peppers, and sweet limes from Mexico for entry into the United States. Mexico has entered into a Framework Equivalency Work Plan (FEWP) with the USDA. The United States is the largest market for irradiated produce from Mexico. In 2015, more than 20 million pounds of irradiated produce was exported from Mexico to the United States. The volume has grown steadily over recent years and consumer acceptance of irradiated produce has been excellent.
