Indonesian Cocoa Beans

In Indonesia, 6923 tons of food were irradiated in 2010; this was carried out at a private Gamma irradiation facility (30kCi) installed in 1992. The irradiated items included cocoa (80%), frozen foods (7%), spices (5%), and other foods including dehydrated vegetables, seaweed, and honey. In addition, the following new procedures were permitted in 2009: fruit disinfestation (1 kGy for mango and mangosteen), meat disinfection (7kGy for beef and chicken), and sterilization of pre-cooked foods (65 kGy).
